We inspire educators

The Reggio Emilia Institute offers training, courses, materials, guidance, and pedagogical development through various projects and pedagogical documentation, among other things. Since 1993, we have been a meeting place for Reggio Emilia inspiration in Sweden.

Reggio Emilia Institute

Sweden is one of the countries in the world that has the most intensive exchange with educators in Reggio Emilia. After two major and highly acclaimed exhibitions at the Moderna Museet in Stockholm in the 1980s on municipal preschools in Reggio Emilia, the Reggio Emilia Institute was founded in 1993.

Our vision

The Reggio Emilia Institute aims to be a welcoming and attentive meeting place. There, we will nurture and create engagement and connections for everyone who wants to explore and work towards how children's and young people's potential and rights can contribute to democratic global citizenship as a right for all.

Our organization

The Reggio Emilia Institute consists of an economic association and a limited company, which runs a business offering both open courses and commissioned training, enabling the institute to invest in various practical development projects.

Sustainable future – a national network project

The world needs a new narrative in which desire and hope are strong. The Reggio Emilia Institute's national network project "Sustainable Future" brings together preschools and schools, educators, and educational leaders across the country to work on this.

Reggio Emilia inspiration in Sweden

There are many preschools and even schools in Sweden today that are inspired by Reggio Emilia. However, there is no data on how many there are, as this educational philosophy is not a methodology but rather a view of children and learning and democracy that must be constantly worked on and therefore cannot be measured or certified.

Reggio Emilia inspiration in elementary school

Since 2006, we have been working on various development projects in primary schools. With our development projects here, we wanted to see what a Reggio Emilia-inspired addition could mean by investigating the challenges and opportunities it could bring.

International collaborations

Reggio Children is Reggio Emilia's international center, which coordinates and organizes their national and international exchanges with Reggio Emilia-inspired networks around the world. More about this and other international networks, such as the Nordic network, can be found here.

Development projects

The Reggio Emilia Institute works to develop preschools and schools by allocating the institute's surplus to various practical development projects. For several years, the association has been running the Sustainable Future project – a nationwide network project (see more about this project under its tab above).
