The board of the Reggio Emilia Institute has decided to discontinue the magazine Modern Barndom. Issue 4 2025 will be the magazine's last issue.
The journal Modern Barndom began publication in the mid-1990s, initially with one issue per year. Since 2007, it has been possible to subscribe to the journal, and four issues have been published each year.
The magazine has been important to the Reggio Emilia Institute, and the Reggio Emilia Institute would like to thank the editors over the years, Marika Gedin, Elin Swedenmark, Maria Herngren, and Elin Mellerstedt, for their important work. A warm thank you also goes to Karin Gandini, who has been the graphic designer. We would also like to express our sincere gratitude to all contributors, readers, and subscribers over the years. Modern Barndom is being discontinued for financial reasons.
If you have a subscription that runs over the turn of the year 2025/2026 and issue 1 or 2 2026 is the last issue in your current contract period, you can get a partial refund for your paid annual subscription corresponding to the outstanding issues (SEK 120/issue). Contact the finance department at rebecka.johansson@reggioemilia.se and provide your customer details and bank and account number, and we will refund the amount to you. If you are unsure of your contract period/last issue, this is specified on your latest invoice. Refunds are possible until December 30, 2026.
Most published issues are available for purchase on our website, where you can also order the Reggio Emilia Institute's thematic journal Modern Barndom OM, which continues to be published.
